Framingham Workers? Have Rights
In Framingham and the surrounding towns and cities, a staggering number of workers are employed in office occupations. Office and Administrative Support Occupations employ 22,930 workers, Computer and Mathematical Occupations employ 14,300 workers, Management Occupations employ 11,220 workers, and Business and Financial Operations Occupations employ 10,300 workers. Despite these occupations being viewed as relatively safe, risk-free jobs, workers still have a right to workers’ compensation benefits if they are injured while at work.
Nationwide, in 2014, Office and administrative support occupations had 81,750 incidents (with an incidence rate of 50.4) of occupational illnesses and injuries that resulted in days away from work, according to a news release by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s almost as many incidents as there were reported in Construction occupations. In addition, in Management occupations, there were 24,390 incidents; in Business and financial operations occupations, there were 8,770 incidents; and, in Computer and mathematical occupations, there were 2,740 incidents. That’s 117,650 cases of injuries and illnesses at work that required recovery time out of work, in other words, many individuals suffered injuries and illnesses that caused them to lose money. However, they were all entitled to workers’ compensation benefits, as is each and every worker in the United States. Regardless of the apparent safety of your job, you may be injured or become ill at work; you should know your rights when it comes to compensation for missed time at work.
All Jobs Have Risks
Regardless of which occupational sector you work in, work-related injuries can happen to anyone. There were 7,970 reported incidents of Carpal tunnel syndrome, and 94,670 incidents of Cuts, lacerations, and punctures. In addition to injuries that could happen whether you were sitting behind a desk or operating a crane, there are the unavoidable, unpredictable risks of working with other people. There were 73,410 cases of violence and other injuries by persons or animal, 31,380 of which were intentional injuries by another person. These risks are real, and work-related injuries of any kind can be compensated through the insurance your employer is required to have.
